After Milford School Budget Proposal Reduced, Some People Seek to Restore the Reduction
In March, the Finance Board reduced the proposed spending plan and some members of the public want the reduction restored.

MILFORD, CT - In January, the Board of Education approved a $91.78 million budget request or a less than 1 percent increase for fiscal 2016-17, which at the time was the lowest increase sought in more than a decade.
But apparently that wasn’t low enough for members of the Board of Finance who voted in March to reduce the school budget request by $175,000, and this week several members of the public asked the Board of Aldermen to restore most if not all of the $175,000 reduction, the Milford Mirror reports.
The aldermen will approve a final city and school budget in May. Milford residents will pay less in taxes next year, officials have said.

Superintendent of Schools Elizabeth Feser said after the Finance Board made its reduction that, “Ideally we would have loved to have had the Board of Finance support fully what was proposed.”
"While the reduction is somewhat disappointing, in truth the Board of Finance, overall, has been very supportive of our budgets, for which we are grateful. As far as what might be impacted as a result of this reduction, it is too early to declare. The Board of Aldermen will make its decision around the middle of May. At that time we will come to the Board of Education with suggested cuts to the budget if the Aldermen were to keep the reduction made by the Board of Finance,” Feser said.
