Alert Milford Bank Patron Helps Lead to Accused Bank Robber's Arrest: PD

The patron heard the accused say he was robbing a bank and went outside and found two Milford cops nearby who made the arrest.

MILFORD, CT - An alert Milford Bank patron and the fact two police officers happened to be working nearby on a private duty construction road job Monday all led to bad news for accused bank robber Stephen Brill, 53, of Maplewood Avenue.

Police said at 12 p.m. the two city police officers working the road job were informed by a bank patron that the Milford Bank at 205 Bridgeport Avenue was being robbed.

The officers apprehended Brill as he was leaving the bank, police said in a news release.

During the bank robbery, Brill allegedly stated he had a gun and demanded money, police said.

“A bank patron overheard Brill make this statement and went outside to alert the officers,” said Police Officer Joseph Dempsey in a news release. “Brill never displayed a weapon, and was later found to not have any weapon in his possession. Brill was holding the money in his hand when he exited the bank and was taken into custody without further incident.”
