MILFORD, CT — More than 600 runners, walkers and riders participated in the Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus Mother’s Day race. The event raised more than $42,000, organizers said.
It was the second largest number of participants in the race’s 30-year history.
The event included a 5K run/walk, a 3K fitness walk and a kid's fun run presented by Dillon’s Services of Shelton.
“An incredible event filled with energy and purpose,” Mayor Richard Smith said in a statement. “One man running in memory of his late mother; one running to celebrate a significant weight loss; a mother and daughter team running to combat cancer. The reasons today were many, but in the end, it was about giving back to our community, helping people and making the world just a little bit better by being part of today’s event.”
Proceeds from this year’s event support the patients and programs at Bridgeport Hospital’s Milford Campus.
“We’re proud to see the Milford community come together year after year in support of our hospital,” Bridgeport Hospital President Anne Diamond said in a statement. “Proceeds from the Mother’s Day 5K directly benefit the patients and programs at our Milford Campus and reflect our ongoing commitment to partnering with the community to deliver excellent, patient-centered care right where it’s needed most.”
The net proceeds of more than $42,000 were in part due to sponsor support from Dillon's Services, Unitex Textile Services, Milford Vascular Institute, Oncology & Hematology of CT, Berchem Moses, Woodbridge Running, Sodexo, Coca Cola, Star 99.9 and many community in-kind sponsors who provided food and beverages for all participants.
