MILFORD, CT — Two men entered a home early Wednesday morning, shooting a man to death and wounding a woman, NBC CT reported.
A 69-year-old woman told emergency dispatchers that two men entered her East Broadway home shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday.
The woman's companion, Frederick Werner, 69, was shot multiple times and died, according to WTNH News-8. An autopsy by the state medical examiner revealed the cause of death as gunshot wounds and the manner of death as homicide.
The woman was shot in the head and taken to an area hospital, WTNH News-8 reported.
The suspects fled while the woman was on the phone with 911, according to NBC CT.
Milford Police Chief Keith Mello also spoke Thursday regarding the shooting.
"Our detectives and patrol officers are working tirelessly around the clock on this investigation, and we are making meaningful progress," Mello said.
He added that based on evidence, police "have strong indications this was a targeted incident and not an act of random violence."
"We currently have no information to suggest any broader threat to the wider community," Mello said.
He said that police are conducting additional patrols in the city to support residents.
The investigation remains active.
