MILFORD, CT — Crews rescued five people stranded on a sandbar as the tide was coming in, according to fire officials.
At about 7:50 a.m. Sunday, two people were walking on the sandbar and were overcome by the oncoming tide. Fire officials said screams were heard on the shore-initiated 911 calls.
Crews responded, finding five people in distress who were removed from the water.
Three bystanders in the Silver Sands area had jumped in the water to attempt to help the two people stuck on the sandbar.
All five were medically evaluated, then brought to Milford Yacht Club. Two people were then taken to a nearby hospital for further care.
Fire officials said "signs of hypothermia were a concern."
