The Fourth of July is a time when people celebrate with fireworks, barbecues, and family and friend gatherings. But it can also be one of the most dangerous holidays related to injuries and accidents. While fireworks are festive, they can cause severe burns, eye injuries, and fires. Even small firework-related products such as sparklers which can reach anywhere between 1,800- 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s strongly encouraged to attend professional firework displays instead of doing them yourself at home. If fireworks are used, only responsible adults should be handling them, with a bucket of water or a hose nearby.

Grilling and Food Safety

It’s very common for people to take out the grill for their 4th of July cookouts, and as normal as that is, it can still be dangerous. Improper use of grills can lead to fires or even foodborne illnesses. Grills should always be used outside, and food should be cooked at safe internal temperatures to prevent illnesses from occurring. Alcohol consumption can also increase the risk of accidents occurring, especially when you include factors such as swimming and even driving. Planning ahead for safe transportation and monitoring alcohol intake is important.

Community and Pet Safety

While many enjoy Fourth of July celebrations, it can be a stressful time for people who are sensitive to loud noises as well as to our pets. Keeping your pets indoors, giving a calm environment for those with extra sensitivity, and being mindful of those around you can help create a safer environment!
