MILFORD, CT — Silver Sands State Park in Milford remains closed Friday due to water quality issues, according to the state.
The beach was closed earlier this week and remains so after retesting.
Two other state park beaches that had been closed in Westport and Niantic have since reopened. Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield is the only other state-run swimming area that's closed.
Heavy rainfall can trigger higher bacteria levels at swimming areas.
The news on the closure comes as the weather forecast calls for sunny skies and highs in the 80s over the weekend.
Water quality tests are conducted on swimming areas during peak season from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
The tests are conducted by Department of Energy and Environmental Protection staff and analyzed at a Department of Public Health lab to detect the presence of certain indicator bacteria.
When a closure occurs, a retest is scheduled the next day.
More information is available at the state parks website.
