Milford Man Accused Of Damaging Flock Cameras Over Privacy Concerns: Police

MILFORD, CT — A Milford man has been arrested in connection with damage to four city-owned license plate readers in July, according to police.

Eyad Rahim, 20, turned himself in to Milford police Aug. 1 on an active arrest warrant, police said.

Rahim was charged with four counts of first-degree criminal mischief and three counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief.

Police said Rahim is accused of being involved in damaging four license plate readers owned by the city.

Rahim admitted involvement in the incidents and told investigators he targeted the cameras because he believed the technology was unconstitutional and had privacy concerns, according to CT Insider. The four cameras sustained more than $16,000 in damage.

The arrest comes amid ongoing controversy over Milford's use of Flock Safety license plate readers.

Residents packed an Aug. 3 Board of Aldermen meeting to raise privacy and civil liberties concerns over the technology, and aldermen voted to table until September a proposal that would pause the use, installation or expansion of the cameras while the city conducts a review.

Rahim was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 1, according to police.
