Joan grew up in Stamford, CT and was a graduate of Stamford High School in 1965. Joan received a scholarship to Mary Byers secretarial school in NYC. Joan was an executive secretary with several companies and a legal secretary with Kapusta and Otzel law firm in Milford, CT. Joan had a passion for whatever she did. She was a quilter (warmed many with a quilt), member of book groups and an avid reader. She loved playing Mahjong, boating and traveling. Joan's favorite thing to do was to arrange and coordinate vacations, wine trips, and celebrations for all! Joan was known for being a true "social director." Her planning will be truly missed as she kept everyone moving! She had innate talent for cooking for family and friends. Joan was someone that anyone could go to for help or an opinion, knowing she would help them in any way she could. When thanked for her help, support, or even a generous gift her favorite response was, "I have my moments."

Love graced Joan when she met Joseph Koziel, and together they built a wonderful life of happiness and love, celebrating 34 blessed years of marriage. A true team that all enjoyed!

In addition to her husband, Joe, Joan is survived by her siblings Lee Anderson (Donald), Brian Nichols (Lorna), Laurie Martin (Thomas), stepchildren, Jeffery Koziel (Robin), Christopher Koziel (Kathy) and Jennifer Koziel, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her first husband, Ernest Julian.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Masonic Hospice, Yale Smilow Center, and the nurses and staff for their compassionate care and support during challenging times.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa, 79 South Main Street, Middletown, CT.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joanie's name to the charity of your choice.
