Kathleen (Vincent) Mulligan, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on September 8, 2026. She was 78.
Born in 1947 to Francis Vincent and Mildred Vincent, Kathleen was one of eleven children and grew up in West Haven, Connecticut, surrounded by the large family that helped shape her deep sense of loyalty, generosity, humor, and love.
In 1968, Kathleen married Gary Mulligan, beginning a marriage and partnership that spanned nearly six decades. Together they built a life centered on family and raised their two daughters, Tricia Mulligan (Joseph Crosby) and Jennifer Mulligan (Eric Sundman).
Of all the roles Kathleen held throughout her life, none brought her greater joy than being "Nana" to her four grandchildren, Samantha, Ryan, Max, and Alex. She loved them fiercely and delighted in their lives, accomplishments, personalities, and adventures. Being their Nana was not simply something she did; it was one of the great joys and proudest parts of her life.
Kathleen enjoyed a long career at Yale University and the Yale School of Medicine, where she worked in the Department of Psychiatry and held responsibility for grants and contracts. Smart, capable, and hardworking, she brought the same determination and attention to others to her professional life that she brought to everything she did.
Those who knew Kathleen will remember her for her remarkable kindness and generosity of spirit. She was always ready to help, to listen, to show up, and to care for the people she loved. She was smart and feisty, with a strong mind, a quick wit, and a willingness to speak her mind. She could be both wonderfully warm and wonderfully determined, and those qualities made her unmistakably Kathleen.
At the center of her life was family. As one of eleven siblings, a wife of nearly 60 years, a mother, and a beloved Nana, she understood that a meaningful life is built through the relationships we nurture and the love we give. She gave both abundantly.
Kathleen leaves behind her husband, Gary; her daughters, Tricia and Jennifer, and their husbands, Joseph and Eric; her beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Ryan, Max, and Alex; her brothers and sisters and extended family; and the many friends, colleagues, and loved ones whose lives were made better by knowing her.
Her family will miss her intelligence, her feistiness, her humor, her generosity, and, most of all, the extraordinary love she gave so freely. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the strength, kindness, and devotion she brought to her family will remain part of them always.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford.
