Fall is officially here in Milford, and there's no shortage of ways to make the most of it. From festivals and farmers markets to pumpkin patches, live music and other seasonal fun, October brings plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy what's happening close to home.
Here are some events and activities happening in and around Milford this October.

When: Saturday, Oct. 17–Sunday, Oct. 18, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
Where: Milford Green, 168–176 Broad St., Milford, CT
Get an early start on holiday shopping at the Milford Artisan Market, returning to the Milford Green for its 10th year. More than 170 local crafters and makers will offer pottery, jewelry, paintings, woodworking, gourmet foods and other handmade goods, alongside live music, kids' crafts, artist demonstrations and food vendors. Admission is free, with a free yoga session at 10 a.m. each day and a giveaway for the first 100 attendees on Saturday and Sunday.
When: Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 25, plus Monday, Oct. 12, 10:30 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: The Shore Line Trolley Museum, 17 River St., East Haven, CT
Head to nearby East Haven for a fall ride aboard the Pumpkin Patch Trolley at the Shore Line Trolley Museum. Families can take a scenic trolley ride to the pumpkin patch, where each child can choose a sugar pumpkin to take home and enjoy seasonal activities. The last trolley departs at 4 p.m.; tickets are available online for individual dates.

Where: Milford Green and Downtown Milford, Milford, CT
Celebrate Halloween downtown during Hall-O-Weekend, the Downtown Milford Business Association's annual family-friendly celebration. The weekend kicks off Friday with an outdoor showing of "Hocus Pocus" at 6 p.m. at the Green's gazebo, followed Saturday by the Fall Fest from 10 a.m.–3 p.m., featuring a costume parade, pumpkin patch, hay maze, vendors, children's activities and entertainment. A downtown trick-or-treat trail runs from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday, with the day's festivities also including the annual Trick or Trot benefiting the Beth-El Center.
When: Saturdays and Sundays through early November; flashlight mazes on select Friday and Saturday nights
Where: Treat Farm, 361 Old Tavern Road, Orange, CT
Get lost among the stalks at The Famous Corn Maze at Treat Farm in nearby Orange. The farm's 6-plus-acre Grand Maze can take 90 minutes or longer to navigate and includes an interactive game, while a half-acre Mini Maze offers a shorter challenge geared toward younger visitors. For an after-dark challenge, Treat Farm also opens the Grand Maze for flashlight adventures on select Friday and Saturday nights. October admission to the Grand Maze also includes a hayride to and from the maze; advance tickets are available online.
When: Fridays and Saturdays for group tours (private tours available by booking daily), 7:30 p.m.
Where: 1070 Chapel St., New Haven, CT
Take a nighttime walk through New Haven's darker history during Ghosts of New Haven, a recurring tour series. The 90-minute walking tour explores local legends and tales involving historic cemeteries, secret societies, Yale's founders and other reportedly haunted corners of the city. Tours meet outside Starbucks at 1070 Chapel St., with adult tickets starting at $25 and discounted admission available for students, children, military members and seniors.
