George O. Berendt Jr., 80, of Milford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of October 2, 2026, following a one-year battle with cancer.
He was surrounded by his loving family and his devoted wife of 55 years, Elaine. Born on June 7, 1946, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, George was the second oldest of five children born to George Sr. and Amelia Berendt.
George met Elaine in Milford when they were 19 and 18 years old. They spent 60 years together and celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in April of this year. Together, they raised two loving children, Eric and Kristin, and built a life filled with family, devotion, and treasured memories.
George retired from United Parcel Service after 30 years, where he worked as a feeder driver. He was a thoughtful, loving, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Family was at the center of his life, and he took great pride in being there for those he loved.
Even after working the night shift, George made it a priority to attend his children's sporting events and activities. After retirement, he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, taking them fishing and proudly attending their many activities and sporting events. His presence, encouragement, and steady support will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine; his son, Eric, and his wife Denise; his daughter, Kristin; his grandsons, Matthew, Ryan, and Justin; his sisters, Beverly Spiller, Audrey Verrilli (Vinnie), and Dolores Stevens (Mick); and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Zane Spiller.
