Ann Close Donohue devoted wife of predeceased Edward Donohue of Milford, CT., passed peacefully Tuesday October 6,2026 surrounded by members of her loving family at Maplewood Senior Living Facility where she was a resident since 2019. She is predeceased by her parents Agnes Coyle Close and Joseph Close as well as her brothers Keville and George (Buddy) Close and sister Mary Chase and many relatives, colleagues and dear friends.

Born and raised in New Haven a graduate of St Mary's High School 1951 and New Haven State Teachers College (Southern Connecticut State University) Ann was a teacher by education and instinct. Her strongest passion will always be her family, which often included those who did not carry the Donohue last name!

Throughout her life she and her husband Ed raised their family in many organizations, teams and clubs. It was her true joy to be present at the many hockey games, shows and events because being a mother she often said was her best job ever. Many friends of her children often recall just dropping in for an extra pair of gloves or a snack or picnic as they might have from school or after a game. She always had an extra for an extra and prided herself on an open house policy. Where there were 5 children of her own there was always room for more. As the family grew up and moved away, she was a constant source of care packages, cards and frequent phone calls with sound advice and a dash of sass.

She and Ed took many trips and often incorporated a visit to our families along the way, always doing something new and different to color their world. They had a very active life both together and individually. She took this journey with her friends also by sending many cards to brighten a day, visiting when someone was in need of comfort or making Irish bread to bring as a special treat.

Ann and Ed Donohue gifted the world with five children and although Ann's light has gone elsewhere her spark lives on in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family, Catherine (George Sweeney deceased) her son Brendan of Ohio, Maggie (Millyn Moore) their children Kathleen and Dan (Devan) and newest addition grandson Riley in Vermont, Only son Edward (Wendy) and their sons Jack, and Billy (Liz) and their new granddaughter Ella in Virginia, Their daughter Pat (Brian Morgan) Hamden, CT and their children Laura (Joseph Sweeney) their sons Charlie and Jack of South Carolina, Matthew Morgan of Virginia Beach and Jen (Mike Tafuto) and their children, Layla, Nicholas and Mateo of Virginia and their youngest daughter Maureen (former husband Mark Feinroth) and their daughters Annie and Caroline from Maryland, All will miss her infectious smile, kindness and wit.

We are truly blessed to have Ann as our beacon and hope that her zest for fun and a fulfilling life has spread also to those who have engaged with her.
Our Family invites her friends and extended family to join in a celebration of life memorial mass in Ann's honor at St Agnes Church in Milford Ct. on November 21st 10 am with a get together following. In lieu of flowers our family suggests donating to Hospice in Ann's name as it has given much needed comfort and compassionate care at the end of beautiful lives.

We also ask you to perform frequent random acts of kindness in Ann's memory and always keep the happy in your heart!
