Armstrong called it a "hard-fought campaign."

"Tonight I am disappointed but not discouraged," he said in the statement. "It's a great night to be a Democrat. Across the country, Americans are resoundingly rejecting the Trump agenda."

In another state legislative race, State Sen. James Maroney, a Democrat, was re-elected in 14th District over Republican Owen Weaver, according to State Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff.

It was a big night for Democrats statewide, as Gov. Ned Lamont won a third term and all five Democratic congressional candidates were elected: Rosa DeLauro, Jim Himes, Luke Bronin, Joseph Courtney, and Jahana Hayes.

Also winning reelection were Attorney General William Tong, Sec. of State Stephanie Thomas, Treasurer Erick Russell, and Comptroller Sean Scanlon, according to Hearst Connecticut.
