K9 Tyson, alongside his handler Officer Hilliard, was a distinguished graduate of the 208th Patrol Handler Class and the Connecticut State Police 237th K9 Narcotics Detection Troop. Over his 5 ½ years of dedicated service, K9 Tyson made an indelible impact—not only in Milford, but across the state and beyond—working closely with local police departments, the Connecticut State Police, and federal agencies.

Tyson was instrumental in locating numerous missing persons and apprehending dangerous, wanted individuals. His keen nose led to the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics and multiple firearms. Tyson’s work helped take criminals off the streets, save lives, and make our communities safer.

His bravery did not go unnoticed. Tyson and Officer Hilliard received several departmental accolades, including one of the department’s highest medals for bravery, after tracking and saving a suicidal individual from drowning. Their exceptional teamwork also earned national recognition after deflating a stolen vehicle’s tires, locating both suspects, and preventing one from being struck by an oncoming train.

But beyond the badge, Tyson was family.

To Officer Hilliard, his wife, and their two daughters, Tyson was more than a partner—he was a brother, a protector, and a cherished companion. He loved chasing his ball in the yard, lounging by the pool, and relaxing at home after a day’s work. Always loyal, always loving, and always ready to lick a plate clean when the girls were done eating.

K9 Tyson, thank you for your service, your courage, and your unwavering heart. You will be forever missed, never forgotten, and always honored.
