A Milford resident says she shot this photo of a bobcat in her neighbor's backyard Tuesday afternoon.
The bobcat is a protected species that does not normally interfere with humans, according to the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection.

But it will prey upon some domestic animals, including cats, the DEEP warns.
"If you live in more rural areas where bobcats have been sighted, make sure that you have good spotlights to be able to see your pets if you let them out at night -- and don't let them be unattended," Milford's chief animal control officer, Rick George, said.

If the big cats appear to be overly aggressive or sick, George suggests residents call the DEEP or the Milford Police Department.
The Milford resident who says she took the photo, Pam Rasmidatta, could not be reached for further details.
