Briarpatch Enterprise Padres capture Milford Little League Crown

The Brairpatch Enterprise Padres defeated the Berchem, Moses and Devlin Mets 7-3 for the inaugural Milford Little League Majors Division Championship Saturday morning at Ralph Clarkson Field.

The 3rd seeded Mets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st off Padres starter Ethan Long. Nate Seluga worked a lead off walk. Tyler Fonck then drilled a sure extra base hit into the gap in right-center that was chased down by Padres right fielder Wyatt Shallis. Jeanero King walked and stole second scoring Seluga making it 1-0. King would eventually score on a passed ball giving the Mets the 2-0 lead.

The Padres would respond in their half of the first inning with Matthew Fehmel drawing a lead off walk off Mets starter Jeanero King. Zach Worzel lined a single to center putting runners on the corners. Ethan Long delivered an RBI single tying the game at 2.

Padres lefty Charlie Becker came on to pitch the second inning and kept the Mets bats in check by promptly struck out the next 7 consecutive batters.

Will Smith and Fehmel led off the bottom of the 3rd with walks putting runners on first and second. Zach Worzel then drilled a triple to the center field fence scoring Smith and Fehmel making it 4-2 Padres. Ethan Long would follow with a walk and come around to score on Wyatt Shallis’ single extending the lead to 6-2.

The Mets would threaten in the top of the 4th with one-out hits by Dalton Evans and AJ Aliberti . Becker would settle in and strike out the next 2 Mets thwarting the potential rally.

In the top of the 5th, the Mets' Mikey Brunning would draw a 1-out walk and come around to score on Nate Seluga’s RBI triple cutting the Padres lead to 6-3. The Padres then brought in closer Zach Worzel to gain the final out of the 5th, keeping the score at 6-3.

Matthew Fehmel led off the bottom of the 5th inning with a drive to left that was chased down by Mets left fielder Liam Valvo for the first out. Zach Worzel legged out an infield single and would come around to score on Ethan Long’s RBI double extending the Padres lead to 7-3.

Zach Worzel worked a scoreless 6th and the Padres secured the first Majors Division Championship of the recently merged Milford Little League.
