Milford Arts Council, the MAC

The MAC’s (Milford Arts Council) Eastbound Theatre has announced auditions for Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” on Tuesday, April 14 and Thursday, April 16, from 7 – 9 pm at the MAC, 40 Railroad Avenue South in Milford. Callbacks, if needed, will be at the Margaret Egan Center, 35 Mathews Street in Milford on Tuesday, April 21, 7 – 9 pm.
Set on a remote island, the classic Shakespeare tale focuses on Prospero, a magician and rightful Duke of Milan, who lives with his daughter Miranda and two servants: Caliban, a savage figure, and&nbsp;Ariel, an airy spirit, after his brother Antonio usurped his position. Using the power of his magic, Prospero conjures a storm (the “tempest”) to shipwreck his brother and his allies, bringing them to the island for a lesson in revenge, reconciliation and eventually forgiveness. The play contains music that evokes the spirit of enchantment on the island.
Auditions will be cold readings of sides from the play, but actors are also welcome to come with a prepared Shakespearian monologue. The show, directed by Nancy A. Herman of Milford, will take place at Eisenhower Park in Milford on July 31, August 1 and August 2 with rain dates from August 7 – 9.
