'Civic Showstoppers': 3 CT Public Building Lands On Most Beautiful List
These three Connecticut towns have architectural gems that made a list of the most beautiful in the US.
Three Connecticut public buildings have been voted among the most beautiful in America. The survey of 3,014 people comes from LovevsDesign.com.
The survey asked respondents which public buildings in their state they consider beautiful yet constantly overlooked.
"The results reveal a surprisingly rich cross-section of American design," LovevsDesign.com wrote, "buildings that shine not through spectacle, but through proportion, material, setting, and that hard-to-define sense of civic pride."

"What was once a place of education now hosts the day-to-day workings of local government, and in the afternoon light, its broad steps and handsome portico still feel like the ceremonial heart of Greenwich," LovevsDesign.com wrote.
Milford City Hall comes in at No. 98. Set on the town green, "this Colonial Revival building has a calm, measured elegance that suits its setting perfectly." City Hall's white columns, brick façade, and cupola "give it that classic New England dignity, but there’s also a softness to the proportions that makes it feel more welcoming than formal," according to the survey.
"It’s the sort of civic building people walk past every day without realizing how gracefully it ties the whole area together."
Norwich City Hall, built between 1870 and 1873 and later expanded in 1909, ranked No. 102. The building is "a standout example of Second Empire civic architecture." It was praised for its brick façade, cut-stone base, and slate mansard roof, which give it "a dignified, old-world presence, while details like the cast-iron entry porch and the clock-topped corner tower add a touch of ornamented charm."
Norwich City Hall is set above the downtown crossroads of Union Street and Broadway, and "it still carries out the work it was built for, quietly anchoring the city with more than a century of steady purpose."
The leaders on the list include Hot Springs National Park Administration Building in Arkansas at No. 1 followed by the Wailuku Public Library in Hawaii and the Museum of Art Fort Collins, a former post office in Colorado.
