CT Weather: Accumulating Snow Chances Decrease For Much Of State
The National Weather Service released a new update Friday on the chance for snow on Sunday. Here are the new updates.
CONNECTICUT — If you love snow, here's some good news and bad news for you. The good news is that there are two chances to see snowflakes over the next few days, Friday night and Sunday.
The bad news is that it isn't expected to amount to much, if anything. A couple of days ago, there was a growing consensus that a low pressure system might bring accumulating snow to the state on Sunday and Monday, but those chances have diminished as the approaching storm looks weaker than initially thought, according to a new update via the National Weather Service.
The best chance to see light snow accumulation is in northern Connecticut, according to the weather service. There is a chance for some light snow accumulation in far northern sections of the state on Friday too, and other areas of the state may see snow flurries.

Friday looks like a very cold and overcast day with some rain and snow showers, Saturday is dry, but it will feel like it's 2o degrees due to the wind chill factor and Sunday will be chilly too with a chance for snow and rain showers.
OOOOOHH yes--this is happening! As temps drop this afternoon, expect some accumulating snow in the higher elevations (above 600'). Wouldn't rule out some passing flurries in the valley!@WTNH pic.twitter.com/19QcDD4TX1

Rain showers tomorrow morning followed some snow showers in the afternoon/evening with gusty winds. A coating to as much as 2" of snow may fall in the hilltowns (some flakes but no accumulation expected in the valley). #nbcct pic.twitter.com/x4DUcKbiaB

The weather service said the low pressure system is now expected to weaken as it moves near Connecticut.
"There continues to be some uncertainty with the precipitation type forecast as well," the weather service said as part of its technical discussion on the weekend snow chance. "Some flurries or slight chance of light snow is possible Sunday morning, changing over to a slight chance for rain for most locations by the afternoon, except a mix of rain/snow for the higher elevations inland.
"Thereafter, as the low develops offshore and winds shift more to the north, colder air moves into the region, bringing the rain/snow line toward the coast. Given the weaker surface low development, there remains some question just how far south this cold air will make it, and whether it will lag the (precipitation) too much for any meaningful changeover as the low departs.
"Nonetheless, a changeover to all snow is possible before ending, however, there is just a low-end chance. Liquid equivalent for this event will be quite light, less than 0.10" for most locations. With at least some rain mixing in everywhere at some point, only minor, if any, snow accumulation is expected at this time, and this would be across the interior," the weather service concludes.
