CT Weather: 'Nasty' Thunderstorms, Flooding Concerns This Weekend

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the chance for strong storms this weekend in Connecticut.

CONNECTICUT — Maybe we'll get better weather in August because July continues to look like a mess.

There is a chance for thunderstorms and rain showers Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. This doesn't mean it will be a washout each day, it just means that we're dealing with unsettled weather for the next several days.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for southern Connecticut saying, "Showers and thunderstorms are likely this weekend. Any training of storm cells will result in the potential for either minor or flash flooding."

Northern areas of the state are also expected to see storms and rain showers too.

A flash flood watch is in effect for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties from Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening.

"There will be a moderate risk for excessive rainfall tomorrow afternoon and evening," the weather service said concerning northern parts of the state. "Scattered showers and thunderstorms will overspread the watch area Saturday afternoon and evening producing widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches with locally higher amounts possible.

A flash flood watch is in effect from Saturday afternoon through late Saturday night for Fairfield County.

"Showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact the area ahead of a slow moving cold front," the weather service said. "The rain will fall across areas with abnormally wet antecedent conditions due to recent heavy rain, leading to an increased potential for flash flooding."

WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons said, "Watch out for a fast-moving thunderstorm between 3 PM and 8 PM going into the early evening. I expect it to be a little bit better for tomorrow! An early shower and fog then some sun and watch out for an afternoon thunderstorm. Heavy rain and thunder tomorrow night and that may drag on a little bit into Sunday."
