The National Weather Service says Connecticut may see severe weather on Friday. Here's everything you need to know.

CONNECTICUT — It's almost Thanksgiving, and we're talking about the chance for severe thunderstorms and a very slight chance of a tornado in Connecticut on Friday. Insane.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the entire state due to the chance for severe weather on Friday.

"A strong frontal system will push across the forecast area today. This system will bring a period of moderate to locally heavy rainfall from this morning through early to mid afternoon. Although widespread flooding is not expected, minor flooding of urban areas, small streams, and poor drainage areas is possible.

"Rainfall amounts will generally average around an inch, however locally higher amounts up to an inch and a half may be possible. With most of the rain falling in a 3-6 hour window, the local area has been placed in a marginal risk of excessive rainfall.

"In addition, The Storm Prediction Center has put the entire area in a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms with the primary threat being strong wind gusts up to 60mph. In addition, a brief tornado can not be ruled out."


Here is the advisory for Hartford, Tolland and Windham County

"Heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms move into western Massachusetts and Connecticut after 10 to 11 AM. This reaches eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island after 1 to 2 PM. There is a low risk of an isolated severe storm. The main threats are damaging winds and a tornado cannot be ruled out.

"Scattered showers with perhaps a few rumbles of thunder late on Saturday into Saturday night. Strong wind gusts are possible late on Saturday.

Litchfield County

"Rain will come down heavy at times this morning into the early afternoon with ponding of water on roadways expected and some flooding of lying lowing and poor drainage areas possible.

"Wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph are possible this morning across portions of the southern Green Mountains, Berkshires and Taconics which could bring down small branches and blow around unsecured objects.

"In addition, there is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms this morning across the southeastern Catskills and mid-Hudson Valley and late this morning into the early afternoon for northwest Connecticut and southern Berkshires. The main threat is isolated damaging wind gusts.

Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph becoming southwest 7 to 12 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Tonight: Showers likely before 7pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 44. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday: A 50 percent chance of showers after 1pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 58. Light and variable wind becoming south 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Saturday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 36. West wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Sunday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 52. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38.
