Defendant in Milford Man's Murder Using Insanity Defense: Report

The accused allegedly shot and killed the Milford man at a construction site in Bridgeport in 2015.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A man accused of fatally shooting a Milford man is planning to use an insanity defense, the Connecticut Post reports.

On March 26, 2015, Gregory Weathers shot and killed Jose Araujo, 31, of Milford, police have said. The trial has started and the motive for the shooting centers around Weathers was looking for a job at a construction site in Bridgeport and was told he'd need to fill out an application, the Post reports.

He is facing 85 years in prison if convicted on all charges. Araujo was working for Burns Construction in Bridgeport at the time of the shooting.

A co-worker of Araujo's testified that "Jose was helpless," and that he wanted to help Araujo but Weathers kept repeatedly shooting, the Post reports.
