Wind chills may drop to as low as 15 to 20 below zero Wednesday night into Thursday morning and possibly again Thursday night into Friday morning across portions of northern interior Massachusetts. This may require Wind Chill Advisories to be issued.
A coastal storm may bring significant snow to at least a portion of the region sometime during the New Year`s weekend, but it remains uncertain how close to the coast this storm will track.
The odds of snow on Saturday have risen from about 30 percent to 50 percent from earlier forecasts. The NWS has not yet released any estimates on total snowfall.
"How quickly storms from the Midwest and the South converge and strengthen will determine the extent and intensity of the snow from the mid-Atlantic to New England," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski says.
