Devon Rotary Club Donates Millionth Dollar

At this week's meeting, declared Monday, June 4th to be Day. 

With the awarding of the four-year, $1,000/year Paul Austin Scholarship to student Shelja Patel, Devon Rotary officially donated their millionth dollar as an organization. 

Since being chartered in 1986, the Devon Rotary Club has bestowed over $1,000,000, including students grants in excess of $200,000.

They've also funded pavilions at and Fowler Field, recently donated a van to the  and played an instrumental role in the forming of the Beth-El Center, the , and the .

Regarding the pavilions funded by the Rotary, former Club president Paul Otzel pointed out, "After we build these projects, we continue to maintain the facilities, so there is not cost to the city of Milford."

Former Rotary president James Maroney said, "Our favorite thing to invest in is the Devon youth community" as he presented the Paul Austin scholarship to Patel.

Shelja Patel is ranked #2 in her class, and a member of the National Honors Society, the Keyettes and participated in the Miss India Connecticut pageant.

Current Rotary president Steve Cardia closed out the ceremony by saying, "None of this could be possible if members of the community had not given their time."

At this point, the Aldermen member and citizens in City Hall gave the Devon Rotary Club a standing ovation.
