Dear Mayor Blake:

On behalf of the Devon-Stratford Merchants and Citizens Coalition, we are writing to request that you formally invite the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) to conduct a public hearing in Milford to discuss issues surrounding the DOT’s proposed redesign of I-95’s exit 33.
As you are aware, issues of great concern to citizens of Milford and Stratford have arisen that bear closer public and DOT scrutiny. Among these are questions pertaining to the potential loss of livelihood to nearby Devon small businesses stemming from a severe reduction in traffic resulting from the redirection of the current traffic pattern on Route 1; the environmental impact to nearby Stratford and Milford homes, families and businesses through leaking contaminated ground water that will result from excavation and construction taking place on and around “Stratford Crossing,” the former location of the Raymark/Raybestos industrial plant; and the dramatic loss in surrounding property values that will likely result by the leaking contaminated ground water and close by relocation of contaminated soil.
We are prepared to assist in any way we can to help organize and publicize the hearing should you wish to call on us. We believe it is vitally important for all parties involved to include as many Milford and Stratford citizens as possible in an open, public forum to discuss these issues. Most important, we wish to ensure that the voices of the nearby citizens and business people who will be most directly affected by this proposed project are heard.
We look forward to hearing back from you soon.
Sincerely,
Charles Perez
