Durga Prasad, 87, of Woodbridge, CT, passed away on Thursday, September 5th, 2024 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born in Rupapur, Varanasi, India on September 13, 1936 and was the son of the late Mr. Jhumak Lal and Mrs. Beila Devi. Durga was married to the late Shanti Prasad for 64 years and is survived by his brother, Akram Lal, and six children: Shiva Vrat Prasad, Seema Srivastava, Veena Sinha, Sushama Sinha, Sudha Mehta, and Suman Malik. Other survivors include his 5 son-in-laws, 1 daughter-in-law, 17 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Durga came to the US in 1975 to study law at Yale University where he received his Juris Doctor. He worked tirelessly to plant his family roots in the area and led a long and distinguished career as a professor of business law at Southern Connecticut State University. In his free time, Durga enjoyed gardening, spirituality, and surrounding himself with family and friends. He established the Shanti Public Rose Garden in Woodbridge, CT where he found great peace and happiness and welcomed others to do the same. He will be remembered for his positive and caring spirit, and unconditional love for others - in his everlasting words to all, “Be happy, always.”
Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing on Monday, September 9, 2024 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford. The procession will leave the funeral home at 11:30 a.m., stopping at Durga’s home for a flower offering and arriving at Evergreen Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.. Monetary donations may be made to the Ashram of Our Spiritual Teacher – Shri Satpalji Maharaj in Durga’s memory.
