Eight Stores Charged With Selling Tobacco to Minors

Eight stores in Milford have been cited for allegedly selling cigarettes to a minor, according to police.

Under the direction and supervision of the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, an underage youth employed by the Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program entered 24 establishments in town on Nov. 30 and tried to buy tobacco, police said. You must be 18 years old to buy cigarettes legally in the Nutmeg State.

The youth was successful in eight places, according to police.

Police identified those places as:

Cumberland Farms, 1023 Boston Post Road.

Woodmont Shell, 190 Woodmont Road.

Choe Food Mart Shell, 1345 New Haven Ave.

Friendly Liquor Store, 240 Broad St.

Krausers, 631 Milford Point Road.

Sassy's Liquor Locker, 965 Bridgeport Ave.

Krausers, 361 Bridgeport Ave.

One Stop Mart Sunoco, 298 Boston Post Road.

The stores were found to be in violation of state law, which carries a $200 fine, according to police.

"The offending clerks at these establishments were cited," police said.

"The cigarette dealer license holder at each establishment also faces additional administrative sanctions from the Department of Revenue Services, the state agency that issues cigarette dealer licenses," police added.
