Eugenia L. Porto, of Milford, CT, passed away peacefully after her battle with Alzheimer’s on February 8 2026

Eugenia L. Porto, of Milford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully after her battle with Alzheimer’s on February 8, 2026, surrounded by family in Orange, CT. Genie was born on June 28, 1944, and was a West Haven native, daughter of the late Robert and Edna Russell, and was predeceased by her brother, Robert Jr., and her sister, Edrene Teahan.
Genie will be remembered by all for her infectious energy, intense focus and drive, and her deep commitment to family and friends, whom she cared for immensely.
She leaves behind the love of her life, her husband James Porto, Jr., with whom she shared many years of success as Realtors at both Coldwell Banker and William Raveis in Milford. She enjoyed her years with Jim on Gulf Street in Milford, where she hosted family gatherings by the pool, and holiday celebrations. After moving to Caswell Cove in Milford, she enjoyed happy hour on the deck overlooking the marina, and attending to the ducks, her most beloved companions. In addition to spending time with their family in Connecticut, Genie also enjoyed spending time at their second home and community in Naples, Florida, and enjoyed frequent trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas.

She is survived by her sister, Betty (Rodney) Miller, her children, Greg (Karen) Hawes, of Westport, CT, Maura Black, of Hamden, CT, Geneene Luedee (Cris), of Hamden, CT, Steve (Marnory) Hawes, of Hamden, CT, and Jim’s children, Melissa (Rob) Perry, Michele (Paul) Hume, and James Porto, III. Genie and Jim share fifteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and 6 nephews and nieces.
Genie lived her life with exuberance and great intention in everything she did. She serves as a prime example and reminder to live one’s life to the fullest. We live with her in our hearts with gratitude forever.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 11:00 a.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford. Interment will follow at Kings Highway Cemetery, 271 Cherry Street, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association CT Chapter at www.al.org/ct
