Film About Milford's Nick Newell, An MMA Fighter, Now In Theaters

"Notorious Nick" tells the story of Newell, a professional athlete born with a partial left arm. It is playing at the Connecticut Post Mall.

MILFORD, CT — Milford residents can watch the story of one of their own unfold on the big screen – "Notorious Nick," about town native-turned-professional athlete Nick Newell, is playing at the Connecticut Post Mall's movie theater.

Newell, born with only a partial left arm, is a professional fighter signed with Bellator MMA who also owns a fight gym, the Milford Mirror reported.

He began his career as a wrestler at Jonathan Law High School before twice becoming captain of the Western New England University team, according to the Mirror.

Now, he's a professional mixed martial arts fighter – and the subject of "Notorious Nick," an independent movie that was picked up by Lionsgate, the Mirror reported.

"It’s not often that an independent film gets picked up by such a big production company like Lionsgate," Newell told the Mirror. "Lionsgate saw it and loved it and ran with it. So I think that says a lot about the movie itself."

"Notorious Nick" has multiple showtimes Monday through Thursday at Cinemark Connecticut Post 14 + IMAX. Showtimes can be found here.
