Good Samaritans Stop Milford Carjacking, Suspect Arrested: PD

The victim was thrown to the ground and screamed for help, police said. Several good Samaritans intervened until police arrived.

MILFORD, CT — A Bridgeport man was charged after he threw a woman on the ground and tried to take her vehicle, according to police.

The victim gave Mandel Givens, 41, a ride on Dec. 28, but he attempted to take the keys from the vehicle and grabbed the steering wheel, police said. The victim pulled over on Gulf Street near Dock Road and Givens threw her to the ground.

A group of good Samaritans heard the victim screaming for help and tried to stop Givens from leaving the scene, police said. Officers arrived shortly after and took Givens into custody after a struggle.

Givens was charged with robbery involving an occupied motor vehicle, third-degree larceny, third-degree assault of an elderly person and interfering with police. Bail was set at $50,000.
