Grand Opening Date Revealed For Big Y Grocery Store In Milford

MILFORD, CT — If you drive along Interstate 95 each day you may have spotted the Big Y billboard between exits 34 and 35 stating that the grand opening for its Milford store will be Nov. 7.

Big Y World Class Market will open for business at 150 Boston Post Road on Nov. 7. The store is in the process of hiring folks for its Milford location.

This free- standing supermarket will be approximately 55,000 square feet. This location would be the 73rd Big Y market with locations throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. Big Y maintains a strong presence in New Haven County, as this will be the chain's 10th World Class Market there.

They currently operate stores in Ansonia, Branford, Cheshire, Guilford, Meriden, Naugatuck, North Haven, North Branford and have another store scheduled to open in Derby in 2019.

According to a company news release, Big Y prides itself on "prepared meals including freshly made pizzas and rotisserie chicken dinners, stir fry, fresh cooked to order fish and chips, a broad selection of specialty and local foods including a wide array of organic and gluten free, a full service butcher shop, seafood direct from New England piers as well as an extensive produce department which offers over 500 different items including organics as well as fruits and vegetables from local farms and orchards."

Big Y produce buyers work with local growers throughout the year in order to be able to sell as much native produce as possible throughout the growing season. The property is owned by Metro Star Properties LLC of Milford.
