Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Fairfield, New Haven County

The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Fairfield and New Haven county for tonight and Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Fairfield and New Haven county as strong wind gusts and potential flooding are expected. One to two inches of rain is expected to fall before it ends around noon Friday.

The weather service said "there is a low potential for flooding due to heavy rainfall tonight."

A wind advisory is in effect until midnight as winds may gust up to 45 mph at times.

"Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects," the weather service said. "Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result ... Highest winds along the immediate coast and in the higher elevations farther inland ... Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects."

The weather service said a "large low pressure system" is responsible for the unsettled weather and that "moderate to heavy rain" is forecast while we're sleeping and tapering off Friday morning. It is possible there could be a rain shower or thunderstorm Friday afternoon.

There is good news in that Saturday looks really nice with sunshine returning and temps into the mid to upper 60s and Sunday starts sunny before rain moves in once again at night. In looking ahead, after the rain ends Monday morning sunshine is forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Tonight: A chance of showers before 9pm, then rain, mainly after 9pm. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 51. Windy, with a southeast wind 23 to 33 mph decreasing to 11 to 21 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Friday: Rain likely before noon, then a chance of showers between noon and 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. East wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a slight chance of showers between midnight and 2am. Cloudy, then gradual clearing toward daybreak, with a low around 46. North wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Northwest wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 47. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 65.

Sunday Night: A 40 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48.
