CONNECTICUT — The excessive heat wave is over but in its wake we can expect strong-to-severe thunderstorms and downpours Monday and Tuesday. But there is good news on the horizon as once the stormy weather concludes by Tuesday afternoon, there is nothing but sunshine in the forecast through next weekend and temps are much more palatable too.
Connecticut could see up to two inches of rain before it ends as showers Tuesday afternoon.
In a weather statement for Southern Connecticut, the National Weather Service says, "There is potential for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms to affect the region, mainly this afternoon and evening. The main threat with this activity will be damaging wind gusts. Heavy rainfall across the area may produce localized low lying and poor drainage flooding."
For Northern Connecticut, the NWS says, "Showers and scattered thunderstorms may produce strong gusty winds. Local downpours may produce urban and poor drainage flooding. Tuesday...Local downpours may produce urban and poor drainage flooding."
WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons says, "Monday sun and clouds with high temperatures in the 80s today. I do want you to pay extra close attention to some severe weather late afternoon into this evening. Severe thunderstorms possible and a tornado warning is not impossible. Rain tonight and tomorrow morning will clear out later tomorrow afternoon. Beautiful weather from Wednesday right through the coming weekend! I do expect the heat wave to be snapped today, but it will still be very warm and very muggy. A few storms fire during the afternoon, but the louder, vivid action will happen this evening and early Tonight. #FirstAlertCT #tstorms #NBCCT pic.twitter.com/NNExrXK126
