Huge Parade Turnout: Milford's Promise 'Respect' Marchers
Record Number of Milford's Promise 'Respect' Honorees March in Memorial Day Parade
Milford, CT – An estimated 250 Milford’s Promise ‘Respect’ honorees and parents marched in the May 25th Memorial Day Parade – a record attendance!
This year’s 14th Annual Respect Campaign saw over 200 Stars of Respect and 48 Ambassadors of Respect named. The Stars received a Certificate and in-school honor, and the Ambassadors of Respect will be presented with their Certificate at the Respect Ceremony on Wednesday, June 4, 7 pm at City Hall. Mayor Benjamin G. Blake and Dr. Elizabeth Feser will share comments and meet with all in attendance.
All during the month of May, the Milford’s Promise 14th Annual Respect campaign (‘motto: Milford – Where Respect Shines’) has been in running in the following city wide schools: Calf Pen Meadow, John F. Kennedy, Live Oaks, Mathewson, Meadowside, Orange Avenue, Orchard Hills, Pumpkin Delight, East Shore, Harborside, West Shore, and the Academy. This year the program expanded to include Jonathan Law, Joseph A. Foran, St. Mary School and St. Gabriel School.

Milford’s Promise, founded in 1998, is an affiliate of the National ‘America’s Promise’ organization, and a partner agency of the United Way of Milford. They were also a catalyst in compiling and submitting the application for the National ‘100 Best Communities in America for young people’ which resulted in Connecticut being chosen as one of the ‘100 Best’ for the past 5 years – and in 2008 Milford was the only Connecticut community to be chosen.
Milford’s Promise is committed to mobilizing the community to build the character and competence of its youth by fulfilling the Five Promises set forth by the parent organization, America’s Promise - started by Colin Powell - as a call to action to make youth a national priority.
