State police released new details about the crash, including the name of the person killed and also the identity of the person charged.

MILFORD, CT — A 35-year-old North Haven man, Tianzhu Yuan, of Maple Avenue, was killed in a wrong-way crash early Saturday morning, state police said. James Tedesco, 41, of Broadbridge Avenue in Stratford is charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, state police said.
At 2:01 a.m. Saturday, state troopers responded to a two-car motor vehicle collision on Interstate-95 North near exit 34.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Yuan's vehicle, a 2005 Toyota Camry, was traveling on I-95 North, North of Exit 34 in an unknown lane, state police said.

Tedesco's vehicle, a 2018 GMC Sierra, was traveling on I-95 North in the wrong direction (southbound in the northbound lanes), state police said. The Sierra struck the Camry in a "head-on style collision," state police said.
"The force of the impact caused the vehicles to spin, such that Vehicle #1 came to final rest oriented southbound in the right shoulder and Vehicle #2 came to final rest oriented northbound in the center lane," state police said.

Yuan sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene, state police said. During the course of the on-scene investigation, Tedesco was determined to be under the influence and he was charged, state police said. A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) assisted with the investigation, state police said.
While at Troop G in the processing area, Tedesco began to report chest pain and was transported to Bridgeport Hospital for evaluation, state police said. The case remains active and more charges are anticipated, state police said in a news release. Tedesco was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond.
