It Happened In Milford: Week 16

IT HAPPENED IN MILFORD WEEK 16

Would you like to count like the Paugusett Indians (Native Americans)? Phonetically here are the numbers from one to twenty: nukcoote, neese, nisk, yow, neparah, negutta, enada, showsuck, paskugit, piunck, nopun-coote, nopun-neese, nopun-nisk, nonpun-yow, nopun-neparah, nopun-negutta, nopun-enada, nopun-showsuck, nonun-paskugit, nopun-piunck. (from Edward R. Lambert’s History of New Haven Colony, 1838.)

The 1930 census showed that beach colonies flourished along the Milford shore. Among these communities is Morningside. Pictured is a Morningside Trolley stop which was a stop on the Bridgeport-New Haven Line. Service discontinued in the 1930s, but the trolley stops still stand today.
