Jeffrey (Jeff) Bakos of West Haven, CT arrested for Strangulation
West Haven man, Jeffrey( Jeff) Bakos arrested for Strangulation/Suffocation of Milford woman
West Haven, CT- On August 9th Jeffrey Bakos was arrested at his home in West Haven for Assault; Strangulation/Suffocation; Unlawful Restraint and Disorderly Conduct. Charges stemmed following an argument with his ex-girlfriend, a Milford resident. Mr. Bakos had a bond set of a mere $10,000 which enabled him to immediately be released from jail while the victim remained in the emergency room. He was then able to leave the country. Mr. Bakos did return for his scheduled court appearance and this criminal case is pending.
Where are the consistencies in our judicial system? Recently, nearly identical charges were brought against a Monroe man yet his bond was set at $75,000. Are crimes committed against a woman from Milford not as significant as a woman from another city or town? There should be clear statutory guidelines for bond amounts and not discretionary bonds set by any Police Departments. Had there been, at the time of Mr. Bakos arrest, an appropriate bond set that was in line with the crimes committed, maybe, just maybe, he would have spent at least one night in jail while his victim was being treated in the ER? Changes in our CT laws are needed to protect victims of domestic violence. Change is coming...
