John Richardson Sr. “Redneck”, 85, passed away on February 4, 2026

John was a man who knew the value of hard work and took pride in doing things the right way.

John Richardson Sr. “Redneck”, 85, of Milford, beloved husband of Barbara Richardson, passed away on February 4, 2026. Born on September 16, 1940 in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late Cloyd and Edna Richardson.

John was a man who knew the value of hard work and took pride in doing things the right way. A Mason since 1968, John built a life defined by dedication. He also served as a mechanic in the United States Air Force, and later spent more than 30 years as a steamfitter at AVCO. John truly enjoyed his work, and his talents didn’t stop when the workday ended; he was always putting his handyman skills to use around the house.

Born and raised in Maryland, John later made his home in Connecticut, though he had a way of settling in comfortably wherever life took him. He was married to his beloved wife, Barbara, for 65 years- a partnership rooted in love, commitment, and shared life.

John found joy in the simple things. He enjoyed watching the 353 Western Channel, spending time outdoors, and mowing the lawn, especially after getting his new tractor. He took pride in it, just as he did in his red Chevy Blazer, which he loved dearly. John will be remembered as a man who worked with his hands, lived with purpose, and made himself at home wherever he was.

Along with his beloved wife, Barbara, John is survived by his children, John Richardson Jr., Cindy (Raymond) Sloat, Joseph Richardson, and Tracy (Robert Jr.) Scaniffe; his grandchildren, Corey Sloat, Breanna (Alex) Christensen, Matthew (Angie) Sloat, Adam (Daniela) Richardson, Joseph Jr. (Kilee) Richardson, Jason Richardson, Bryan Scaniffe, Katie Sloat, Josh (Taylor) Harding, Ariel (Paul) Jablonski, and Dylan Scaniffe; his seven great grandchildren, and his furry companion, Bo. John is predeceased by his siblings, Pat Connors, Sammy Richardson, Larry Richardson, and Charles (Carol) Jones.
