MILFORD, CT — On Halloween a major fire caused substantial damage to Scribner's Restaurant in Milford. The fire resulted in the restaurant shutting down until renovations are undertaken.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the displaced staff as they wait for renovations to be completed.

"Scribner’s Restaurant has been an integral part of Woodmont for over 45 years. A fire after hours on Wednesday October 31, 2018 has damaged the restaurant beyond repair. Over 25 employees have lost their jobs overnight. Scribner and Susan’s livelihood has literally gone up in smoke. Please consider donating funds to help Scribner’s pay off liabilities and to benefit their loyal staff."

In an update on the GoFundMe page it states, "The insurance crew has been in, taking inventory and proceeding with cleanup. Much structural damage to the building that Scribner’s does not own. The Bliss’s main concern at this point are their employees that have an unexpected loss of income and the impact this has on their lives and ability to pay their bills. This fund is hopefully aimed at abating their losses. Please help us find jobs for them, so service oriented and loyal. The outpouring support is so appreciated. As George Peacock so eloquently said, Scribner’s not only provided a dining room but a living room to the community as well."

A total of $5,363 has been raised with a goal of $50,000.
