Lucy Ann Pataky Sinchak, 84, of Milford, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and the wife of the late Joseph Anthony Sinchak, went home to be with the Lord on August 7, 2024.
Born on December 30, 1939, in Bridgeport, CT, Lucy was the daughter of the late Steven and Jean (Boros) Pataky. As a young girl, she loved to explore and roller skate and tell stories with her late sister, Patt Auger. Later in life, Lucy and Patt would love to talk on the phone every day, checking in on each other.
Lucy went on her first date with her darling Joseph (Dodo) Sinchak on March 6, 1959, and eloped in Baltimore, Maryland 6 weeks later, on April 16th, 1959. Two of those weeks, she was grounded! The running joke was that she married him because it was passed curfew and too late to go home, and he married her because at the time, she had a job, and he didn’t. Although there were bets that it wouldn’t last more than 6 months, they loved each other fiercely and were together for 39 years when he passed away in 1998. She would fondly tell stories of their many travels together, visiting Vermont and New Hampshire, going to see the horse races, and a bucket list trip to California and Las Vegas. It has been 26 years since “Dodo” passed, and as Lucy’s time on this side of heaven was coming to an end, she was looking forward to being reunited with him once again.
Lucy always knew she wanted to be a nurse. She devoted over 40 years of her life to caring for others in convalescent homes as an LPN. She predominantly worked the 11PM-7AM shift so she could be home with her children during the day. Her caring nature bled into all that she did. Her family, friends, patients, and in her later life, nurses and other medical personnel, can attest to the fact that she never had a bad thing to say about anyone. The family would like to thank all the people in the Smilow Oncology Unit in Trumbull, who treated her with such care, as her health began to deteriorate.

Known for her unwavering commitment to her family, Lucy was the true matriarch, always putting the needs of her loved ones first. Her greatest joy was caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Nanny”. She never said a bad word about anyone, never taking “a side” one way or another. When raising her children, there was always a dog in the house (Becky/Meshakee watched TV!) and Pee Wee broke up the wrestling fights between the boys, before it got out of hand. The kitchen table often had a few of her children (and their spouses) sitting around it, playing Monopoly. Their house was filled with love, and their yard was the place all the neighborhood kids went to play wiffleball. Later, her grandchildren would know that there were always cookies in her Elmo cookie jar, Snapple in the fridge, and chocolate candies on the dining room table.
Lucy’s life was a testament to her strong faith in God, which guided her every step. Her and her husband put all four of their children through private catholic school, taking out a loan every year for tuitions, school uniforms and books. Lucy and Joe and made a family tradition of everyone going to services together each weekend. Later in life, when she could not get out, she watched church services every day on TV. In her free time, she found joy in reading, crossword puzzles and watching gameshows or murder mysteries with her family. Lucy’s legacy of compassion, love, and faith will live on in the lives of her family and the hearts of all who knew her.

When asked how she wanted to be remembered, she said “I would like everyone to know how much I loved each and every one of them. Without my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, I would not have a reason to live. Amen.”
Lucy is survived by her four beloved children: Joseph Sinchak (Chris), Lucy Ann Morgan (Jeff), Patrick Sinchak (Julianna), and John Sinchak (Jess). Grandchildren: Alexandria Moran (Adam), Andrew Sinchak (Grace), Vanessa Sinchak, Rebecca Witkins (Joe), Jeff Morgan Jr. (Alexis), Skye Sinchak (Jimmy Yeomans), Andrea Sinchak, Joseph Sinchak, and Ilias Sinchak and great grandchildren Madeline and Anna James. She had many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. Her life was brightened, and her day was made by visits from any of her family, but in her last days, nothing brought a bigger smile to her face than a visit from Anna James, because “Grand Nan” loved babies.
In addition to her parents Steven and Jean (Boros) Pataky, her late husband Joseph Anthony Sinchak, and her sister Patt Auger, Lucy is predeceased by her beloved daughter-in-law, Donna Sinchak.
