MILFORD, CT — The city of Milford is proposing to undertake a major field expansion and renovation project.

The city is seeking to convert an existing natural grass field at 0 French Drive to two synthetic turf fields with a baseball overlay. New fencing, ball safety netting, seating and other improvements are planned.

The project has already secured funding from the Board of Aldermen and the application is pending before the city's Inland Wetlands Commission. A public hearing will be held 3 p.m. on June 19 via a Zoom call.

The current field is natural grass and is used as a soccer field/lacrosse field, javelin, shotput and discuss throwing areas.

This current field is near the recently completed softball field. The plans call for converting to synthetic material — soccer, lacrosse and a 90' baseball overlay enclosed by a chain link fence and ball safety netting.

There will be pedestrian seating areas and bleachers and a dugout area. There will also be a small paved driveway with a gate and concrete sidewalk.

One of the reasons for the project is the fact that the current grass field is often flooded and not playable, officials said.

If approved, officials hope to complete the project by mid September. The feedback from commissioners was positive, according to meeting minutes.
