Major Reduction Approved To Apartment Complex Plans In Milford
A representative of the applicant said the revision eliminates large multi-level garages.

MILFORD, CT — The Planning and Zoning Board voted unanimously last week to drastically reduce the size of a proposed apartment complex at 553 West Ave., according to meeting minutes filed by the city of Milford.
The PZB approved Metro 553, LLC's minor amendment to a special permit and site plan that had been approved back in 2017.
The amendment calls for a substantial reduction in the size of the project. The new proposal now consists of 189 units reduced from the previously approved 342, and 261 parking spaces down from 503. A representative of the applicant said the revision eliminates large multi-level garages and seeks to protect and enhance the appeal of the site’s natural environment.

The modified plan for 189 units will feature 30% of units at 80% of median income and 10% at 60% of median income. The applicant noted the city’s current moratorium on affordable housing and that it expires on Aug. 19. The applicant said that the moratorium doesn’t prohibit this amendment, however, because the previous approval predates it.
The project will include a mix of studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom units in five buildings and a ground-level parking garage, clubhouse, and administrative offices.
