Man Charged With Forging Checks at Chase

A man was arrested for allegedly trying to fraudulently cash nearly $5,000 worth of checks at the Chase bank on the Boston Post Road, police said.

The man, identified as William Rivera, 32, of Springfield, Mass., went to Chase at 1651 Boston Post Road around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.

Investigators responded to a report that a man was trying to cash two forged checks totaling $4,970, police said.

"Bank representatives were able to contact the account holder and verified that the transactions were not legitimate," police said.

Rivera was charged with first-degree forgery, third-degree identity theft and third-degree criminal attempt to commit larceny, according to police.

He was being held in lieu of $75,000, police said.
