Man Charged with Strangulation in Suspected Domestic Disturbance

A 44-year-old man was arrested on numerous charges, including strangulation, in connection with a domestic disturbance Friday night, police said.

The man, identified as Christopher Mahoney of Torrington, was busted around 8 p.m. Friday after cops received a complaint of a disturbance that started at a Housatonic Avenue home, according to police.

"Investigation revealed that Mahoney went to his spouse's residence on Housatonic...where he allegedly forced her into a vehicle and had her drive to another location," police said.

"The victim claimed that Mahoney restrained her by the neck, restricting her breathing and threatened to harm her during the incident. The victim contacted a friend regarding the incident who notified police," police added.

Cops say they found the couple at 2019 Bridgeport Ave., which is listed as Dorsey's Pub, in Milford.

"During his arrest, Mahoney resisted the officers' efforts, spit at them and kicked an officer and emergency services worker," police said.

"Mahoney violated conditions of a protective order issued against him during the incident," police added.

Besides strangulation in the second degree, Mahoney was charged with violation of a protective order, criminal trespass in the first degree, unlawful restraint in the second degree, threatening in the second degree, breach of peace in the second degree, interfering with police, and assault on emergency personnel, according to police.

The suspect was held in lieu of $100,000 bail, police said.
