Man Charged With Gun Possession

A 25-year-old Bridgeport man was slapped with gun and other charges early this morning he was pulled over for allegedly failing to use a turn signal, police said.

The suspect, identified as Ron Clarke, allegedly failed to signal properly while making a turn at Bridgeport Avenue and Exit 34 of Interstate 95 around 2:30 a.m. Dec. 12, 2011, according to police.

"During a stop of the vehicle, police located a .380 caliber firearm which had an obliterated serial number," police said in a press release.

"Further investigation revealed that Clarke did not have a pistol permit and had a prior felony conviction which prohibits him from possessing a firearm," police continued.

Besides criminal possession of a firearm, Clarke was charged with weapons in a motor vehicle, altered firearm identification number, no pistol permit, failure to use turn signal and improper display of license plate, according to police.

He was held in lieu of $50,000 bond pending a court date, police said.
