Man Dies While In Milford Police Custody

A man who had several warrants out for his arrest died in police custody after suffering an apparent medical event, police said.

MILFORD, CT — A man in Milford police custody died after suffering an apparent medical episode Wednesday morning, according to police.

Police responded at 10:36 a.m. and located Michael Brown in the Big Y parking lot at 150 Boston Post Road. Brown was wanted on several active arrest warrants and was a suspect in a recently reported theft at another Milford grocery store, police said.

Officers approached Brown and took him into custody. Once he was handcuffed and under control, he "appeared to be having some sort of medical event," according to police.

Emergency medical services were notified and arrived to provide care. While they did so, Brown's condition worsened. Emergency medical services gave him Narcan, and he was taken to Milford Hospital.

He was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital, according to police.

The state Inspector General's Office investigates all deaths that occur while in police custody. That office is investigating Brown's death.
