Man Posing As Cop Targeting Milford Businesses For Cash, Police Say

Milford authorities said a scammer recently called two businesses and asked questions about money and how many people were working.

MILFORD, CT — Milford authorities are asking the public to remain vigilant after two businesses were recently targeted by a scammer pretending to be a police officer.

According to Milford police, a man called Walnut Beach Creamery on Broadway on Friday and identified himself as a lieutenant from the Milford Police Department. The man told staff he was investigating counterfeit bills and asked questions about the business's cash and where it was located.

Police said the same man later contacted Cafe Atlantique, located at 33 River St., and stole $780 after instructing staff to wire the money.

Milford detectives are investigating the incidents. Any business that receives a similar call should not provide the caller with any information and immediately report it to the police.
