Man Tries To Fight Several Men In Milford Bar's Parking Lot, Assaults Police Officer: Police

Police say the man also verbally threatened the lives of police officers', the restaurant and the court.

MILFORD, CT — A Seymour man is accused of trying to fight several men at a Milford bar's parking lot and when he was taken into custody by police he tried to fight several officers, police said. The accused did kick a Milford police officer in the face, police said. He also allegedly verbally threatened the lives of officers', police said.

On August 12, Milford police were conducting a security check at the Beachcomber Restaurant, 92, Melba Street, due to recent neighborhood complaints, police said. While in the parking lot the officers saw a male attempting to fight several other males, police said.

The officer intervened and placed John Beddington, 48, of Mountain Road in Seymour, in handcuffs, police said. Investigation led to the arrest of Beddington who is accused of causing the fight and while being placed under arrest he attempted several times to fight police officers and struck one officer in the face with his foot, while being placed into the patrol car, police said.

This behavior continued throughout the arrest process, with Beddington making threats against officers' lives, the court and the restaurant, police said.

Beddington is charged with second-degree breach of peace, third-degree assault, assault on police personnel, interfering/resisting arrest, and criminal attempt/assault on police personnel. He was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
