Manchester Man Who Robbed Milford Bank Pretending To Have a Bomb Arrested

The January robbery led to nearby buildings to be evacuated because of the bomb threat.

On January 14 the Milford Police Department received a complaint of a bank robbery at the Milford Bank located at 205 Bridgeport Avenue in Milford, according to a police press release Thursday.

A preliminary investigation that day revealed that a male entered the bank, walked up to a teller and placed a paper bag on the counter indicating it was a bomb.

The male handed the teller a note and the teller complied with the demands of handing over money to the male. Upon leaving the Bank, the male left the bag that he indicated was a bomb at the teller station.

The bank and buildings surrounding the bank were evacuated as a precaution and vehicle traffic was diverted away from the scene.

The Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Bomb Squad assisted with the investigation and determined that there were no explosives in the package.

Milford Police Detectives continued to investigate this robbery which led to identifying John Dearborn, 46 of 123 Hilliard Street apartment C, Manchester, as a suspect.

Investigators secured an arrest warrant for Dearborn who was arrested on July 30, who was already incarcerated with the Connecticut Department of Corrections for a prior arrest.

Dearborn was charged with first-degree, second-degree larceny, and first-degree breach of peace. Dearborn was arraigned at Milford Superior court and held in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
